It was a poignant ceremony today at our Veterans Memorial site on Outer Cove Point. Bradley Power emceed the ceremony, MHA Joedy Wall, (as well as laying a wreath) sang beautiful renditions of O' Canada and the Ode to Newfoundland. Several local groups and the Canadian Coast Guard were represented and laid wreaths including MP Joanne Thompson our Member of Parliament. John Kennedy and Steve Walsh represented our Association.
Special thanks to the Town of LBMCOC for the opportunity to participate and for organizing the event. Special thanks also to St. Francis of Assisi Parish for hosting a lovely social afterward in the church annex.
We also recognize that on this day, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians had proudly gathered at the National War Memorial in St. John’s to mark the memorial’s centennial anniversary. The historic event included the laying to rest of an unknown Newfoundland First World War soldier whose remains have been repatriated from Northern France.
