Steve Walsh

Chairperson

Steve Walsh has a Ph.D. in Fisheries and Marine Science from the University of Bergen, Norway.  He recently retired as a senior scientist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), lecturer at Memorial University/Fisheries and Marine Institute, and private research consultant to the fishing industry. He has a wealth of experience in managing and leading large research projects, grant preparation, and serving as chair of several national, and international science committees spanning almost 40 years. He joined the Association in 2015 and the executive in 2017. He describes himself as a life-long volunteer and for this work he has been awarded the Queen’s Jubilee medal. He is currently volunteering as a science advisor to the NL Beekeeping Association and continues volunteering with DFO in the mentoring of junior scientists. He lives with his wife in Logy Bay around the corner from MUN’s Ocean Science Centre where he began his science career.  As Chair, Steve is committed to leading the Association in a direction that allows it to succeed in the years ahead for the betterment of our Town and its residents.
