John Kennedy retired in 2017 as the Senior Resource Planner for the Lands Branch of the Dept. of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture. In addition to his duties regarding the allocation of Crown land province-wide, he also served as the departmental representative on the provincial Forest Ecosystem Planning Team and the federal/provincial Marine Protected Areas steering committee. A longtime volunteer, he has served as President of what is now called the Kelly Park Sports Association from 1988-1993, volunteered with Northeast Minor Hockey from 2001- 2006, and as a board member of the Jack Byrne Arena from 2015-2017. He was a founding member of the Veterans Memorial Committee in 2009. John also served as a Town Councillor from 2005-2009 and as Mayor from 2009-2017. He joined the Association in 2018. He is currently the Chair of the Veterans Memorial Committee, co-leader of the Project Planning Committee, and serves as the Association’s liaison with St. Francis of Assisi School. His goal is to preserve and promote this town’s history and its natural beauty.
